With this sleek pony, she’s definitely a girls’ girl. Mario Russo, the owner and lead stylist of Salon Mario Russo in Boston, broke down Allison William’s refreshing updo in simple steps you can recreate at home—perhaps in preparation for a swanky date with a Bradley Cooper look-alike? You never know!

OK! Magazine: Why is this look sexy for a Saturday night date or party?:

Mario Russo: While many women believe that wearing your hair down is the best date night look, a sleek ponytail is just as sexy as well as ultra-sophisticated. Allison’s ponytail is easy to create at home and does a great job at showing off her face, neckline, and shoulders. Instead of hiding behind your hair, secure it back to exude confidence and highlight your face.

OK!: How can you recreate it at home?

MR:  This look is simple to create and should take you ten minutes at the most. Utilizing your favorite texturing spray (my favorite is Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Spray) or homemade texturizing mixture of a pinch of salt with some water, spritz the spray through dry hair. Next, blow-dry the hair using a boar bristle brush, focusing heat on the roots for added volume and texture. Next, brush the hair back using a fine-tooth comb for smoothness and create a ponytail just level with the tip of your ear. To conceal the elastic, wrap a strand of hair around the base of the ponytail and secure it with a bobby-pin. Finish the look with a generous amount of shine hairspray.

OK!: What’s the #1 product you need to achieve it?

MR: The key to this look is using the right texturizing spray alongside the right hair tools. I recommend keeping on hand a fine-tooth comb as well as a boar bristle brush. I swear by the Mason Pearson brush, but the price can be steep. So instead, I tell clients to look for any brush that utilizes boar bristles. For products, choose a texturizing spray as well as a hairspray that doubles up as a shine spray. I recommend Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray for a sleek and shiny finish that sets this ponytail apart from the rest.
