In fact, the Oscar-winning actress, 36, simply feels lucky she doesn’t have to moonlight.

“I’m so horrible at doing these things,” Charlize says Monday, clutching her presenter and Young Adult co-star Patton Oswalt, when she was honored at the IFP Gotham Independent Films Awards sponsored by euphoria Calvin Klein.

“I find myself so overwhelmed being in a room with people like you,” she tells a crowd that includes Peter Facinelli, Alec Baldwin, Tilda Swinton, Elizabeth Olsen and Vera Farmiga. “I can’t believe that that is how my life turned out. I was asked ‘are you living your dream?’, but I really am, because all I ever wanted was to be able to do this and not have a second job to pay the rent. I got that, and so much more.”

She continues, “I feel so blessed. I know that I’m standing here tonight because purely because of the opportunities have been given to me as an actor, not because I am some an extraordinary, talented human being. I’ve been given incredible chances.”

She points out her mom, Gerda, who is sitting in the crowd. “For whatever talent I lack, I know that I make up in will and hard work. The person who taught me that is the gorgeous blonde sitting at this table right there – my mother. We’ve lived one hell of a life, but I wanted to thank you for giving me the character and the strength.”

Patton yuks, “I feel like you’re accepting me as the award.”

Hungry Charlize noshed on cheese fondue, bread, entrée and cake during the ceremony.

Time to live it up!
