Calling all new moms: If you haven’t already heard the sentiment that if it takes nine months to gain the baby weight, it’s going to take at least nine months (gulp!) to take it off, then let me be the bearer of the bad news—it’s true. But instead of staring longingly at your pre-baby clothes while hiking up the elastic waistband of your maternity jeans (no judgement—I’ve been there), take some style advice from Liz Lange, Target’s maternity designer, who knows just how to fake fabulosity during this awkward in-between phase.
Reuse and Recycle. Remember, the same gently worn items that got you through the first trimester when you were transitioning into your pregnancy are what you can go back to now that you are in the fourth trimester. Tops with an empire waist and side ruching are both flattering and nursing friendly.
Slim Down in Black. Stick with a go-to LBD, like this one from the Liz Lange for Target collection. The V-neckline is super flattering and the pleats help camouflage a tummy. Wear it with embellished flat sandals and stylish sunglasses for day and with espadrilles and colorful accessories for your first date night as a mom and dad.
Casually Chic. To stay comfortable while still looking presentable during maternity leave, I suggest pairing a nursing-friendly tank (long enough to cover any problem areas) with stretchy black pants or cropped maternity jeans.
