On 30Rock he plays snarky John Donaghy but in real life, there’s nothing cynical about Alec Baldwin’s interest in politics. In an upcoming TV interview the actor talks about his political aspirations to none other than former New York governor Elliot Spitzer.
In an interview to air tonight’s Parker Spitzer on CNN, Alec mentions that he is “very, very interested” in becoming a politican. He explains, “The answer is Yes: it’s something I’m very, very interested in.” Alec adds, “People would say to me all the time, ‘Why would you want to get do that?’ And sometimes I don’t want to do it because to leave what I’m doing now would be extremely painful.”
Considering he mentioned his political aspirations last year to 60 Minutes and yet again during the summer to Playboy, it sounds like there’s truth to his intentions! As for moving out of his beloved home state of New York to run for office? I have sometimes thought that I could move to New Jersey or Connecticut and run. I’d love to run against Joe Lieberman. I have no use for him.” And then he notes, “But it’s all fantasy.”
