Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton watched their only child, Chelsea Clinton, wed her boyfriend of five years in an elegant wedding in upstate New York this weekend with “pride and overwhelming emotion.”
Chelsea, 30, married investment banker Marc Mezvinsky at a beautiful estate in a Hudson River village in front of political movers and shakers, high society figures and a sprinkling of celebrities, reports the Associated Press.
The wedding site, a Beaux Arts riverside estate called Astor Courts, was sealed off from the general public. The former president and his wife, the Secretary of State, issued a statement about their daughter’s marriage.
“Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close friends,” said the Clintons.
“We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family.
“On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day.”
Chelsea Clinton — who was escorted down the aisle by her father — wore a Vera Wang strapless gown with a silk organza skirt, a diagonal tulle bodice and an embellished belt and she carried a bouquet of white flowers.
But after the ceremony, the bridge changed into a silk tulle Grecian gown, also by Vera Wang, that crisscrossed in the back and had a narrow black grosgrain belt.
Wang, who also designed the bridesmaid dresses, called it “an honor and a privilege to dress Chelsea on her wedding day,” saying in a statement Sunday that Clinton “radiated joy, youth and happiness.”
