Farrah Abraham probably has the biggest sob story of all the young mothers documented on MTV’s Teen Mom. Since she originally appeared on 16 and Pregnant, America has watched Farrah struggle with an unplanned teen pregnancy, her tumultuous relationship with her mom, as well as dealing with the death of her baby’s father Derek Underwood. But now, Farrah seems poised for a new relationship, if she can only find a way to move on from the terrible loss of high school boyfriend.
Derek died in a car crash before their daughter Sophia was born and Farrah has enrolled in therapy to deal with this tragedy.
She has since become more “open to dating,” with some thanks to her mother Debra Danielson who persuaded her to go out on a date towards the end of this season of Teen Mom.
But in addition to the normal romantic struggles of a young mother looking for a responsible man, Farrah also has to deal with her residual feelings for Derek and the worry over what his family would think of her entering a new relationship.
These feelings are completely normal, assures Dr. Patricia Farrell, a psychologist who does not treat Farrah. “There are feelings of guilt, which can come in because the person feels they are being unfaithful to the old love if they date anyone new.”
Dr. Drew Pinksky who has treated Farrah on the Reunion episodes says, “She’s capable of a relationship; it’s not like she has to be in a chaotic relationship. She’s just attracted to that stuff.”
He has faith in Farrah’s romantic future, saying that she “is one good man” away from a new romance.
