Kelly Clarkson got more than she bargained for when she endorsed Texas Rep. Ron Paul for president! The Grammy winner endorsed the GOP hopeful yesterday and immediately faced a backlash on Twitter.
- She Tweeted, "I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he's got my vote. Too bad he probably won't."
Sounded innocent enough, right? Well, tweeps blasted back against the Texan who's been on the defense lately for a series of racist and homophobic newsletters published under his name in the 1980s and 1990s, the Daily News reports. He's currently tied for the lead with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as they head into the Iowa caucuses next Tuesday.
Kelly indicated she supports the presidential hopeful because he believes in less government. She Tweeted, "I have never heard that Ron Paul is a racist or a homophobe. I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women's rights, men's rights, white/black/purple/orange rights."
