Iconic singer Etta James, who has been in the hospital suffering from leukemia, is now off of her respirator and due to be released from the Intensive Care Unit shortly, new reports reveal.
“The hospital is preparing Etta for release from ICU to a step down unit,” the 73-year-old’s manager Lupe De Leon told Reuters on Friday.
While the “At Last” artist was brought to a Riverside hospital from her home in L.A. for breathing problems recently and placed on a respirator, Lupe says that Etta is now breathing without any assistance.
“She is stable and breathing on her own. Her blood pressure is normal,” the friend explained.
Etta, who won three Grammy awards throughout her long and successful career, has been ill for quite some time now suffering from leukemia and kidney disease among other issues.
