The New Jersey native headed to NYC after graduating from college to perform in off-Broadway shows. In his breakout role on Kotter, he starred along John Travolta who played another fellow sweathog, Vinnie Barbarino.

Just last year Robert, John, Laurence Hilton-Jacobs, and Ron Palillo appeared at the TV Land Awards to accept the 35th Anniversary Award, as pointed out by E! News. Robert is survived by two children, two step-children and three siblings.

May he rest in peace.
