'America's Most Wanted' Canceled by Fox After 23 Years

Fox already ruined our week last week with its announcement that Chicago Code and Traffic Light had been canceled, and now they're at it again. After 23 years, America's Most Wanted has been canceled.

America's Most Wanted, on the air since 1988, profiles men and women wanted by law enforcement agencies. Just a few years ago, Entertainment Weekly reports, the show captured its 1,000th criminal.

Fox will air four quarterly two-hour specials, but the main Saturday night show will be replaced by repeats.

John Walsh has been an important guy at the network for a long time,” Kevin Reilly, Fox entertainment president, told reporters on Monday. “It’s been an important show for us historically. We haven’t made money on the show in quite a while. It wasn’t particularly viable. We wanted to keep the franchise alive. John is having conversations about ways to keep the series alive.”

“We’re going to be in originals across our schedule,” he added. “We want to be able to play repeats to give the audience a chance to catch up and that’s one of the few places we can do that.”

According to EW, America's Most Wanted averaged 5 million viewers this season; the main issue was the cost of production, not its fan base.
