No one was more surprised to take home a Golden Globe last night than Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Andy Samberg (okay, maybe Jacqueline Bissett), who took home two—Best Actor in a Comedy Series and Best TV Comedy.
“I seriously didn’t prepare anything because I thought there was a 100 percent chance I would not win,” Andy told reporters at FOX’s portion of the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Pasadena, Calif. on Tuesday.
The former SNL cast member describes how the first win played out in his head.
“There’s the initial moment of hearing my name and thinking, ‘Wow, that’s great,’ and the immediately my next thought was, ‘Oh no, I have to go up there and say something and I have nothing,'” says Andy. “I feel like I did decent considering.”
So did anyone slip through the cracks of the actor’s spontaneous acceptance speech?
“I forgot to thank my parents and I forgot to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press,” he laments. “In retrospect I would’ve loved to thank Lorne (Michaels), but other than that I did good. I thanked my wife and the network. I got up there and thought, ‘I don’t have any jokes.’ I don’t like going on a stage without jokes.'”
