Could the coveted mirrorball trophy be the new gold medal for Olympic ice dancing champions Meryl Davis and/or Charlie White?
Before the full cast is announced on Tuesday, the duo address speculation that they could be heading to Dancing With The Stars today when they visit the Empire State Building in NYC.
“It would be a real honor,” Charlie, 26, tells me. “Dancing With The Stars has brought so much great coverage of dance, and brought it to the forefront of pop culture. It’s done well.”
How far would they get in the competition?
“I don’t know that we would be so great,” Meryl, 27, admits. “We would just have fun. [laughs] Part of the beauty of this post-Olympic excitement that we’re enjoying is that we’re allowing ourselves to enjoy things. We don’t feel any burden. We don’t feel any pressure, so if we were to do something like that, it would just be fun.”
They already have one friend on the show in Derek Hough, who choreographed their My Fair Lady-themed short dance in the Olympics.
The Michigan college students, who have performed together for seventeen years, became the first U.S. ice dancing team ever to take home the gold medal.
Find out if Meryl and/or Charlie will face off on the dance floor when contestants are announced on Good Morning America Tuesday between 8-9 a.m. ET on ABC. Do you want to see them on the show? Tweet us @OKMagazine.
