The audience who attended Chicago at Broadway’s Ambassador Theatre on Talk Back Tuesday last week got to ask the show’s star, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, all of their burning Broadway questions. Most importantly, the audience wanted to know what to expect next from Ashlee — and so do we!
Playing Roxie Hart on Broadway is a dream come true for Ashlee — a dream that started when she was very young!
“As a child I grew up dancing,” said Ashlee. “I danced on tour with my sister, so growing up I was a dancer and my dream was to be on Broadway. And my first play I actually saw was Les Miserables. That was amazing as well and made me feel right about that I want to be on Broadway. It’s amazing to be on it and in New York City. It’s a dream.”
Ashlee isn’t the only person excited about her role — her family has been very supportive and can sing all the songs!
“They definitely know them because they’ve seen the show like 40 times,” she shared. “My sister and my family have seen the show numerous times.”
Ashlee works hard to balance being a performer, a wife to Pete Wentz and a mother to son Bronx Mowgli Wentz.
“I’m a Libra and it’s all about balance,” she explained. “You just find a way. Luckily, except for on the weekends, it’s a night show. I’m home all day.”
But, home will no longer be in NYC.
“No, I’m not going to [live here], although I love New York,” Ashlee said about continuing to make a home in NYC. “I think it’s a beautiful place and maybe one day I will live here.”
So what’s next for Ashlee?
“Motherhood,” she said. “I plan to take a little break after this. I’m going to take a break in the meantime and figure out what I’m going to do.”
“But I will be making another record,” she said. “In that time, you’ve got to make some music.”
