New mom and The Real Housewives of New York City‘s Bethenny Frankel has been in the line of fire about how quickly she dropped her baby weight, but she’s ready to fight back.
Before her pregnancy Bethenny weighed 117 lbs., during she gained 35 pounds and now she weighed in at 122.5 lbs when she hit the Access Hollywood scale on Thursday.
“Do I think it’s an unrealistic message to be sending? If I gained 80 pounds and expect to come back, that’s unrealistic. But the truth is I’m healthy before, during and after,” Bethenny told Access.
“The last day I started de-swelling and I pulled up my shirt and I said, ‘It’s not that bad.’ I said, “Jason this is not that bad,’” she said of her time in the hospital. “I think when I left the hospital, I had probably lost around 25 lbs.”
Bethenny gave birth to daughter Bryn three weeks ago, who weighed 4 lbs, 12 ounces at birth.
Access asked Dr. Svetlana Kogan, who has not treated Bethenny, if her weight loss seemed appropriate.
“It is a safe weight loss depending on what your lifestyle is,” Dr. Kogan said. “Bethenny Frankel represents an average working breastfeeding woman.”
“I didn’t diet when I was pregnant, but I also didn’t binge,” Bethenny said in defense. “My theory is people who gain 60 to 70 pounds… you’re eating, you’re eating like a maniac! I think it’s license to go off the rails.”
The author of Naturally Thin and The Skinnygirl Dish said she would practice yoga and take walks in NYC with her husband Jason Hoppy.
“I ate healthy and I did eat sweets,” she explained. “I do love to indulge a little, I ate whatever I wanted, but not like a crazy person.”
