Brooke Mueller wants to be allowed contact with her husband Charlie Sheen and is asking to chance the protective order so she can try and save her marriage.

Brooke has hired Yale Galanter, the criminal defense lawyer who represented OJ Simpson for several years, in case prosecutors charge her with making a false police report, TMZ reports.

Galenter said Brooke did not tell the story about Charlie allegedly holding a knife to her neck and threatening to have her killed, like she told police on Christmas Day. Instead, Galanter said she did "minimize her story, like many wives in a similar situation do, when they realize their husband could go to jail."

Papers were filed with the Aspen court this morning asking for permission for Brooke to contact Charlie, Galanter said, "so they can work on resolving the conflicts in their marriage."

What happened Christmas was "one bad night," Galanter added, and said Charlie and Brooke love each other very much.

Galenter was hired to make sure prosecutors don't charge Brooke with lying to the police. He said Brooke did not recant her story, but soft-pedaled her tale to a female cop hours after the 911 call because she didn't realize Charlie would be arrested after she made the call.
