David Arquette has had a whirlwind of a year — first dealing with his heartbreaking separation from his wife of 11 years, Courteney Cox, and then struggling to overcome his addicition problems and self-confidence issues. But now, after completing a treatment program, competing on Dancing With the Stars and regaining some happiness in his life, David's ready for the next chapter.

Although he just announced his split with girlfriend Christina McLarty, saying "a long-distance relationship proved to be too difficult," he's leaning on Courteney and their daughter Coco for support. And thankfully, he and his ex-wife share a strong bond, despite all they've been through.

"It's really important to respect the time you've had together and not let resentments control your life and lead you to act out," an emotional David tells Ellen DeGeneres today on The Ellen Show.

"My thing was I was just so hard on myself... I'm like the hardest person on myself," he continues. "So when I started being able to recognize that voice and not take it as the truth and be kinder to myself and love myself, than I could love the people around me. You don't have to get all pent up with all of the anger that is connected to a really emotional, very difficult process."

It's obvious that David has had a lot of time to deal with the impending divorce and try and put the pieces back together. He's even sharing some advice with others who might be experiencing a similar situation.

"It's just really important to sort of deal with your emotions," he explains. "A lot of the emotions you feel in a situation like that are actually rooted in things you experienced when you were younger. Feelings of inadequacy that aren't necessarily the right things to be going on in your mind."

We love that David and Courteney continue to support each other and share a really special friendship. We wish every couple in Hollywood could be like them!
