Demi Lovato Talks Candidly to Ellen DeGeneres: "Self-Medicated With Drugs & Alcohol"

Demi Lovato's candid interview with Ellen DeGeneres airs today in which the 19-year-old star talks about her recent time in treatment so that she can be an inspiration for other young girls.

Demi explained on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she was "technically both" anorexic and bulimic when she decided to get help by going into treatment.

The Sonny With a Chance star says bullying had a huge negative effect on her and that made her start to cut herself.

"I think that years of abuse in school," Demi explained. "So many things were said to me that just haunted me every day. I went from having all these friends to none and that's the effects that bullying can have on you. That's why I'm so adamant and outspoken about why it's so important to get the awareness out there that teen bullying can cause these issues. I struggled with cutting, anorexia, basically bulimia..."

"Were you drinking or doing drugs or anything like that?" Ellen asked.

"I would be lying to you if I said that I never experimented or self-medicated with drugs and alcohol," she admitted.

But Demi says she's in "such a good place now" and that her "health and recovery" come first.
