Listen up social media mavens (especially those of you with no filter when it comes to those 140 characters Twitter affords you), Demi Lovato has lived over 11 million tweets, so she knows a thing or two about when to keep your proverbial lips zipped.
“I’m impulsive when it comes to fighting back, but I’ve learned to reel it in,” she tells Seventeen, as guest editor and cover girl of their August 2014 issue. “Tweeting without thinking does more harm than good. So take a second. Journal what you want to say, and then if you still feel the same later, that’s when you can tweet it.”
On a more serious note, Demi admits she has lots of good days but still plenty of bad ones since undergoing treatment, noting there’s no quick fix for the human psyche.
“Since I went to treatment, there have been days when it’s felt really easy, and I’ve felt great about where I am,” she admits to the magazine. “But then I have moments when it’s not. That’s life. You can’t just take your mind and your body into the shop and get it fixed. It doesn’t come out repaired. It’s not like a car. It takes time—pace yourself. Every day is a new opportunity to change your life and be who you want to be.”
