Harry Potter star Emma Watson felt “sick, emotional” when she discovered, aged 17, that she was worth $32 million.
The 20-year-old tells UK Vogue [via UK’s Daily Telegraph newspaper] that she was 17 or 18 when her father sat her down for the “money conversation”.
Until then, maintaining a semblance of normal teenage life, Emma had been on a weekly allowance of $80. “By the third or fourth film, the money was starting to get… serious. I had no idea. I felt sick, very emotional.
To learn how to handle her millions, Emma enrolled on a course at exclusive British bank, Coutts, to learn how to manage her money.
But she says she’s barely touched her money, and she describes herself as being “straight and boring”, a lifestyle that was reinforced by the Harry Potter movies, in which she wasn’t allowed to change her image.
“For the nine years I was on Harry Potter I was contractually obliged not to cut my hair, not to tan,” she said.
