In the new film Struck By Lightening, which was written by Glee star Chris Colfer when he was just 16, Sarah Hyland plays a bratty high school cheerleader who is considered to be the "queen bee" on campus.

"It was a lot of fun.  Any character like that is just juicy and dirty almost. It’s fun to play her because you never get to be like that. It was my first time in a cheerleader’s uniform. I almost threw up," she told us exclusively during our interview with her at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.

"I never ever imaged me in a cheerleader’s uniform even for a movie.  I never pictured myself as being portrayed as that ever," Sarah added.

While the Modern Family star can't relate to the typical high school experience since she went to a performing arts school, she does relate to Chris' character in the film because of how unafraid he is to speak his mind.

"Carson is so outspoken and opinionated and not really scared of authority and I was kind of like that in high school — actually a lot like that. I was very opinionated. I definitely spoke my mind about a lot of things and I didn’t care of it was the principal or teacher. I was very brass in high school."

Sarah doesn't mind she didn't attend a regualr high school and she's alright with not knowing what that four years would have been like.

"I honestly do not know where I would fit in. I don’t know if I would have been bullied. I don’t know if I would have been popular. I have no idea. It would be interesting to know, but I have a feeling I would like my experience better."

She does know however, what it's like to suddenly be in the spotlight and she gave us her take on what it's been like for her.

"I always think that if you’re a young adult or actress on a TV show automatically you become a role model. It’s not so much a choice of yours at all. If you’re an actress in any way — even if you’re 50 years old you become a role model for someone no matter what. It’s kind of thrust upon you. As long as you do what you think is best and you live your life the way you want — I don’t think you should live your life for other people at all. I think you should always like it the way you want it to."

She added: "I know who I am and I’m happy with who I am, but everyone has insecurities no matter what. I’m sure Gisele Bündchen has her insecurities. I’m not so sure about Sofía Vergara she’s very confident as she should be.  When you are in the public eye people make comments and of course you’re going to see them with technology these days. Words hurt but at the same time it’s one person’s opinion and who cares? You don’t even know them."
