Former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi may be a successful songwriter and producer but when it comes to her past, she’s revealing sordid details of being the victim of child molestation and date rape in her new memoir, A Helluva High Note.
Although the book won’t officially be released until next Tuesday, it’s already receiving a lot of buzz. According to E! Online, the 40-year-old documented being molested by a family friend when she was merely 11-years-old. She recalled, “I remember freezing and not knowing what to do.”
Fast forward several years and as she climbed the ladder within the music business, a “fairly known producer” date raped her after slipping her a date rape drug. Then a few years after that she was sexually harassed by a “hugely successful artist.” Kara decided to continue to work with him because she was determined to not let him “deter me from doing the job.”
In addition to her troubling past, in her new memoir Kara also opened up about her final season on American Idol. Turns out she actually approached producers to leave her contract! She wrote, “I wanted a child and there was no way I could get pregnant under the stress of eighteen-hour work days and live TV.” Kara underwent three unsuccessful rounds of IVF during Season 9.
Although she admitted leaving was painful, she added, “But my desire to be in control of my destiny was larger than my need to be a household name.”
