NEWSHBO Filmmakers "Humbled" to Be a Part of the Release of 'West Memphis 3'

Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky witnessed the "West Memphis 3" — Jason Baldwin, Damien Echols and Jessie Misskelley Jr. — walk free from prison today after following their case and producing two critically acclaimed HBO documentaries on their story.

Berlinger and Sinofsky directed the films Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills, in 1996, and Paradise Lost 2: Revelations, in 2000, which created a movement to free the "West Memphis 3" for wrongful murder convictions by telling the story through film.
Their third and final film on the case, Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory, has now been given a happy ending, as all three of the men were released from prison today.

"Eighteen years and three films ago, we started this journey to document the terrible murders of three innocent boys and the subsequent circus that followed the arrests and convictions of Baldwin, Echols and Misskelley," Berlinger said in a statement. "To see our work culminate in the righting of this tragic miscarriage of justice is more than a filmmaker could ask for."
Sinofsky added, "Today, we, along with HBO, are humbled to be a part of this remarkable outcome."
Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and debut on HBO in January 2012.
