Hugh Jackman wasn’t planning to do much to celebrate his 43 birthday on Wednesday. After the morning launch event for his new charity-supporting coffee company, Laughing Man Coffee & Tea, at ABC Kitchen in New York, he would be stuck on a plane to London — but instead he got a birthday surprise!

While it was early for a frosting-covered cake, Hugh was all smiles when his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, friends and business partners surprised him by singing happy birthday and giving him a candle-covered cake.

It was the second birthday cake in less than 24 hours for Hugh. His wife Deborra-Lee told OK! that she and Hugh celebrated the night before with their two kids Oscar and Ava.

“It was our dream night!” she told OK!. “We stayed at home with the kids and had birthday cake.”

The Reel Steel actor looked fit and trim at the event – despite having indulged in two slices of Magnolia Bakery’s banana cake.

“I love it — it’s my favorite cake!” Hugh told OK!.

Deborra-Lee says she’s currently on a detox after a summer of eating cream and champagne around Europe, but admits it’s hard for the couple to resist the treat. “They’re right next door to us!” she said.

Hugh made sure to keep his birthday festivities low-key, as not to overshadow the event he really wanted to celebrate — the Laughing Man Coffee & Tea launch.

“We have a motto at Laughing Man and that is ‘all be happy,’” Hugh told the crowd.

The coffee company project has been a year in the works for Hugh, inspired after he took a trip to Ethiopia with his wife and the NGO World Vision International and spent time on coffee farms, where he met a farmer named Dukale. Now, he has a coffee named Dukale’s Dream and has committed to giving all of the profits to charity, split between World Vision and The Harlem Village Academy.

“At Laughing Man we want to make money, don’t get me wrong — then we want to give it away,” Hugh said. “Every time you buy Dukale’s Dream you are making such a massive difference to not only your day but to a man’s and a community’s life.”
