The irreverent and often shaggy James Franco asked out the equally irreverent Kristen Stewart, according to RadarOnline.com, after the two met last week at the Toronto Film Festival.

Sources say he was "smitten" and made the normally sullen actress laugh while he attempted to charm her by cracking jokes.

"At the end of their chance meeting, James took Kristen’s number and asked her out for dinner," the spy continued. “Kristen initially said no, but is mulling over the idea. She knows she has to move on now, following her breakup with Rob."

Word is the duo have plans to get together once they're back in the U.S.

The actor, author and performance artist has made no secret of his admiration for Kristen, even going so far as to gush in an editorial for The Huffington Post about what a terrific and accomplished actress she is after a viewing of Snow White and the Huntsman.

"Stewart has braved more scrutiny of her private life than most presidents," he wrote. "She has taken big career risks by doing films like Welcome to the Rileys, The Runaways and On the Road (nudity, I hear). She has worked her a** off. Whatever Snow White may be, Kristen is a warrior queen. Give her the crown."

Should K-Stew give James a chance?
