John Stamos is using his high-profile celebrity status as a platform to save young children. The star is gearing up to host the NYC event for Project Cuddle, a charity that saves babies from being abandoned. John, 46, opened up to PopEater about the event, wanting kids of his own and his love life.

John told PopEater that his involvement with Project Cuddle began because of his mom.

"My mom was friends with the founder, Debbe Magnusen," he explained. "She was saving babies out of her home. She started an 800 number to help girls who were thinking about abandoning their babies and also finding homes for abandoned babies. It's just one of those charities where it came to me like, 'Wow, I can really make a difference,' because she needed exposure."

"Oprah did a piece on Debbe. She save hundreds of babies."

John said hopes to raise awareness about save haven laws through his involvement with the charity organization.

"A lot of these girls who call are hiding the babies from their parents and boyfriends and don't get prenatal care," he added.

"A lot of it is also preventive. We have a video we made on birth control that we are trying to get shown in all sex-ed classes."

There is still hope for all the Uncle Jesse fans out there – John said he is not dating anyone specific at the moment.

"I've embraced bachelorhood at the moment," he said. "I'm happily dating."

While John isn't dating anyone in particular right now, he is still open-minded about fatherhood.

He said his involvement with Project Cuddle has made him want children of his own.

"I love kids, and I think that's the one thing that's really missing in my life. I hope to be a parent someday."
