Katie Holmes scored the August cover of Elle magazine. And six weeks before she filed for divorce, she sat down to chat with magazine about her plans for the future.

At first glance, Katie seems like an unconventional choice for the cover. Aside from taping an episode of Project Runway All Stars a few days ago, Katie's career has largely been on hold, with most stories about the actress revolving around Suri or her marriage to Tom Cruise.
She has, however, started her own fashion line, Holmes & Yang, with her stylist pal Jeanne Yang. But a cover for the Dawson's Creek alum would make perfect sense if she was planning a big divorce...
Elle released some teasers and it appears Katie was hinting at a metamorphoses — even if she didn't come right out and say anything about ending her marriage.
"I definitely feel much more comfortable in my own skin,” she said. “I feel sexier. I think in my 20s, it’s like you’re trying too hard to figure everything out… I’m starting to come into my own. It’s like a new phase."

When the writer asked about being Mrs. Tom Cruise and how that may affect any changes she wants to make, she gave a rather flippant and cold answer.
“He has been Tom Cruise for 30 years,” she says. “I know who I am and where I am and where I want to go, so I want to focus on that.”
She goes on to say that being married to the Mission: Impossible star didn't help her career and rather she's had to "work a little bit harder" being so "visible."

A source close to the magazine told Page Six Katie didn't talk about Tom in a "lovey-dovey way… she deflected the Tom questions and brought them around to herself.”
The magazine hits newsstands on July 17.
Well, if Katie's career trajectory is anything like one of Tom's other ex-wives, Nicole Kidman, she may have a bright future. Nicole won an Oscar for her role in The Hours after her divorce from Tom in 2001 and was nominated once again for Rabbit Hole a few years later.
