When you've released an album titled Teenage Dream and its hit video has you in a bed of cotton candy, there's really only one place to go from there — darker. Much darker.
Katy Perry, fresh off behind-the-scenes documentary Piece of Me's release, has been dropping hints her next album is going to be less sunshine and more edge.
"I would love to just let it [her next album] be the 'black box' of who I am," she told Capital FM this week.
The California Gurls singer said last March that she was "about to get really fu**ing dark. I'll be shoe gazing."
Fans probably won't find this particularly shocking. The singer did suffer the end of her one-year marriage to Russell Brand last year, an event that left her emotionally reeling.
"I'm kind of one of those people who is a bit emotion-less on the outside, especially in public, but what I do is I store it," she said. "I file it, so when I need to write I can just push that button."
