Let us attempt to recap Rachel's family tree.

In the pilot episode of Glee we learned that Rachel (Lea Michele) had two dads. Hiram and Leroy Berry are an interacial same sex-couple who used a surrogate to conceive Rachel. As Rachel explained, her dads mixed their sperm together with a turkey baster and Rachel didn't know who her biological father was.

However, in a tongue-and-cheek manner, Lea showed a picture of her dads posted in her locker revealing Hiram is white and Liam is black leading fans to believe Hiram is most likely her father.

Eventually, Rachel discovers that her biological mother is Shelby Corcoran (Idina Menzel), the coach of Vocal Adrenaline. Rachel's father paid her to be their surrogate and had a contract not to contact Rachel.
