The great American novel is going 3D! In an upcoming role, Leonardo DiCaprio will play the role of Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire, in The Great Gatsby. According to The Sunday Telegraph of Australia (via The Huffington Post), the new film version of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic will be filmed in New South Wales, Australia. In addition to Leonardo, it sounds like quite the stellar cast! Carey Mulligan will play Daisy Buchanan and Tobey Maguire will play Nick Carraway, the books’ narrator.

Although the 3D announcement may make a splash for Leo fans, just last month it was being discussed as a possibility for the film. It is expected to be released in 2012.
