Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had initially promised not to wed until everyone in the world was able to get married regardless of sexual orientation. Continuing to make strides for marriage equality, the couple’s recent engagement news is being whole-heartedly welcomed by the LGBT community.
"We would never want any committed couple to deny themselves and their families the happiness and security that marriage brings,” Communications Director for Equality California Rebekah Orr told E! Online of Brad and Angie’s plans to walk down the aisle.
Although marriage equality has not been accepted in all states just yet, Rebekah thinks that the couple’s commitment to one another will only help to further rally support for the cause.
"Their marriage just provides one more opportunity to remind all of us why marriage matters to all loving couples and why the exclusion of same-sex couples from the freedom to marry is so hurtful to families,” she added.
A rep for the Moneyball star and In the Land of Blood and Honey director confirmed their engagement on Friday, after raising six children together over the course of their seven-year relationship.
Congratulations, Brad and Angie!
