Despite recent reports, AMC says Mad Men will be back for season five — just a little later than usual.
According to Deadline, AMC and Lionsgate have been trying to negotiate with Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner for fifth and sixth seasons that could cause the show to “collapse.”
AMC and Lionsgate reportedly want there to be product placement, an elimination of two regular cast members and two minutes cut from the show for more commercials.
And Weiner reportedly wants $30 million over two years for the show, which is reportedly the main hold-up on negotiations.
In an attempt to clear up the rumors, AMC released a statement to USA Today about the fate of the show.
“AMC has officially authorized production of season 5 of Mad Men, triggering our option with Lionsgate,” the network said in a statement. “While we are getting a later start than in years past due to ongoing, key non-cast negotiations, Mad Men will be back for a fifth season in early 2012.”
