After a severe boogie-boarding accident in Malibu on Sunday, Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger's son, Christopher Schwarzenegger, is slowly working toward a complete recovery. The concerned parents issued a joint statement on their 13-year-old son.

"A few days ago our son Christopher suffered an accident at the beach. While it has been a very scary week, Christopher is surrounded by his family and friends," the couple said in a statement, via USA Today. "He is a brave boy and is expected to make a full recovery."

The statement continued: "On behalf of our entire family, we want to sincerely thank the paramedics and lifeguards who responded so swiftly as well as the doctors, nurses, emergency room and hospital staff who have cared for our son. They have been extraordinary to him and to us. We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and ask for respect and privacy for Christopher and our family."

The youngest of the four Schwarzenegger children reportedly suffered a collapsed lung, broken bones and broken ribs while in the water in Malibu. Maria was on the beach when the accident occurred.

Christopher's siblings Katherine and Patrick Schwarzenegger also turned to their Twitters to thank everyone for their support and prayers.

"Thank you guys for ur concern and prayers for my baby brother! He's a tough little guy and getting better! Please keep praying for him! Xo" Katherine Tweeted.

Patrick echoed a similar sentiment, Tweeting: "Thank you everyone for your messages about my brother. This kid is strongest kid I ever seen. Keep praying."

It's been a very difficult month for the Shriver/Schwarzenegger brood.

Maria filed for divorce from Arnold three weeks ago after the shocking news that he fathered a child with a household staff member more than 10 years ago.
