As details unfold in Mel Gibson‘s domestic abuse case, his lawyers are claiming to have hard evidence that the tapes Oksana Grigorieva secretly recorded have been tampered with, according to TMZ.
According to TMZ, if the claims that the tapes are edited turn out to be true, the recordings would no longer be evidence and become irrelevant in court.
The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department will have to deem the tapes to be authentic before sending the case to the D.A.’s Office, TMZ reports.
Mel’s lawyers plan to present evidence the Sheriff’s Department that the tapes have been altered.
Sources tell TMZ, Mel’s lawyers will present “concrete forensic evidence” of tampering with the tapes, including editing.
Oksana’s attorneys told TMZ, “We are not aware of any presentation Gibson’s lawyers are making, but we are not surprised they would make such unfounded claims.”
As previously reported, Oksana’s lawyers are headed to court today to ask a family law judge to grant full custody of the couple’s daughter to Oksana.
A judge can only allow the tapes to be used in court as evidence only if someone can validate that the tapes are real and correct copies of what was actually recorded.
