As Michael Jackson fans mourned the two year anniversary of his death this past weekend, it appears he’s still turning heads. Or in this case, opening wallets. The iconic leather jacket from his “Thriller” video sold for a whopping $1.8 million!
Milton Verret, a commodities trader from Austin, Texas, purchased the iconic jacket yesterday at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills as reported by PopEater. The auctioneer summed up the jacket as “among the most recognizable and famous garments of the 20th century.”
Get this — the original asking price was merely $200,000 to $400,000! That’s one demanding jacket considering the final sales price was nearly $2 million! The iconic red jacket will act as a fundraiser; it will go on tour so proceeds may go toward various children’s charities.
