Get ready everyone, Charlie Sheen’s about to hop on stage once again. This time he’s ditching scripted TV for his own self-promoted tour, heading out on the road April 2 in Detroit. Along for the ride will be Rachel Oberlin, aka Bree Olson, one of Sheen’s famed “goddesses” who tells OK! she’ll be by Charlie’s side for his “My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not an Option” tour.
Rachel isn’t just a Charlie goddess. She’s also recently been awarded the title of “Green Goddess” by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) because of her commitments in leading a vegan lifestyle. Rachel has been meat-free, dairy-free since July of 2010, after reading the witty, underlying guide to veganism, Skinny Bitch, written by best-selling authors Rory Freedman, a former FORD modeling agent, and Kim Barnouin, a former model.
OK! sat down with Rachel to find out more about her vegan escapades and to get the scoop on how her diet plays a role in her relationship with Charlie.
What first inspired you to become vegan?
I completely attribute my vegan diet to the book Skinny Bitch. I was looking for a way to lose weight and they cleverly disguised their book. Had I known it was going to be about veganism, I would have never read it seeing I was a mid-western meat and potatoes kind of gal. I read the book in one sitting and changed my whole diet overnight. I lost all of the weight within a few months just by going vegan. In this era, it is easy to be vegan because there are so many options. I am a huge foodie and I don’t know if I would have been able to follow through had it not been for all of the great restaurants and selections at the grocery stores.
How do you feel the lifestyle enhances your career?
Being vegan has not only enhanced my career due to my banging vegan body, but it has also enhanced my life overall. I feel generally better physically and emotionally. Animal bi-products are so bad for our bodies, and I feel as though my body is now pure and clean. I have so much energy and life now. I also feel great knowing I don’t contribute to any deaths of any innocent creatures.
What’s it like living at Charlie Sheen’s house in a non-vegan environment?
Charlie’s house is not only full of people that understand and support my vegan diet, but also people that are curious and often eat vegan dishes as well. We have a great chef here and he always prepares me amazing vegan dishes. People often enjoy the vegan dishes just as much if not more than the non-vegan ones.
Have you taught him anything about being vegan?
Charlie is very open to eating vegan dishes. I was pleasantly surprised to see that he often chooses the vegan options over the non-vegan ones and will always eat anything vegan I prepare for him. That means a lot to me.
Do you ever cook for him, and if so, what kinds of dishes do you make?
I don’t cook as much as I usually do since we have a chef here right now but when I do cook, sometimes I make a simple veggie stir fry, and other times I prepare vegan lasagna, pizza, and all types of delicious things. I’ve always had a knack for cooking so it was fun to make the switch and get creative with vegan food.
Since your move to L.A., have you found any vegan hotspots that you like to go to?
I have found so many vegan restaurants! Follow Your Heart, Veggie Grill, Vegan Plate, Vegan Planet… gosh there’s just so many, but my favorite will always be the one in Fort Wayne, Indiana —“The Loving Café.” The BBQ “chicken” sandwich, hot wing wrap, panini and basically everything on the menu are so great. I mean five stars, and I’m not kidding.
Do you keep soy milk and other vegan treats at the house?
I keep tons of vegan things in the house. The day I discovered vegan junk food was a very happy day! The best thing about eating vegan junk food is that I never have to worry about gaining weight. My only complaint about keeping vegan treats in this house: My vegan chocolate chip cookies keep disappearing!
In one of Charlie’s Twitpic’s you’re displaying a Naked juice. What’s your favorite vegan drink?
I actually usually don’t drink juice. Eating organic fresh fruit is a way healthier option. I usually just drink water. I occasionally have green tea.
Are you excited for your upcoming role in Mancation? Do you want to continue playing roles in non-porn films?
I am really excited about more mainstream roles.
Will you be going on tour with Charlie?
Yes, I will be going on tour with Charlie.
Is it hard to keep your vegan diet when traveling so much?
It is not hard to keep a vegan diet no matter how much I travel. It can be a pain in the ass to others but not to me. As fast as it takes for people to wait in a drive through a McDonalds, I can go into a Whole Foods and buy everything I need to make a great salad right on the spot. I have become the MacGyver of vegans.
Will you share one of your recipes with OK! readers?
A Rachel original recipe for my vegan pizza:
• Pizza crust
• Tomato sauce
• Red onions
• Green peppers
• Vegan “mozzarella cheese”
• Vegan Italian “sausage”
Your taste buds and banging vegan bodies will thank me later!
