During an interview in the UK, One Direction compared themselves to a pretty big British band that's lasted the test of time — the Beatles!
Harry Styles told The Daily Star, “We watched that film of The Beatles when they first touched down in America and we saw a real likeness with our personalities."
Niall Horan chimed in, “They loved having a laugh like us."
If you ask Sir Paul McCartney for his thoughts though, he begs to differ. He told the British morning show, Daybreak, "So many bands, they all get called the next Beatles. It puts an awful lot of pressure on them to be the next Beatles. Oasis were the next Beatles once, if you remember. It's pressure because suddenly you have got to live up to all the things that we did."
So, what does he think about the boy band? "It was a different time back then. So let's just call [One Direction] the next terrific band."
There's no denying One Direction's success as a terrific band. After appearing on the British version of The X Factor in 2010, their first album, Up All Night, made a splash on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts at numero uno!
This meant they were the first British group to accomplish that feat. The album sold 3 million unitis globally and as for the moolah, the five band members earned an estimated $160 million in just two years, as per The Hollywood Reporter!
Their next album, Take Me Home, is scheduled to be released on November 12.
