After a short break last week, Oscar Pistorius‘ murder trial started back up today. The trial was supposed to end on March 20, but it’s now expected to run into May. Today, the bad news kept coming for Pistorius, as his slain girlfriend’s texts were read aloud to the court.
Police Captain Francois Moller explained that 90% of the messages between Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp were loving and typical of a couple, but there were a few that hinted at Pistorius’ jealous, violent nature. “I’m scared of you sometimes, of how you snap at me,” she wrote. She also complained when he accused her of flirting with another man: “I was not flirting with anyone today and I feel sick that you suggested that.”
The messages certainly don’t help Pistorius’ case. They suggest that there was indeed strife in the relationship, and that Pistorius could easily fly off the handle. Previous testimony in the trial has shown that Pistorius wrongly discharged firearms on at least two other occasions, once with a friend and once with an ex-girlfriend when he was angry.
