When you think of Paula Deen you would be forgiven for instantly conjuring up her famed fried butter recipe, or that time when she created a burger – sandwiched in between two glazed donuts rather than a sesame bun.
The famed Southern cook, her husband Michael Groover and her two sons, TV chefs Jamie and Bobby Deen all decided to put health first and embarked on a fitness regime that saw them lose a massive — and impressive — 178lbs between them.
Paula told People that she cut down on her carb intake, reduced her portion size and doubled up on her greens leading her to drop 40lbs.
Soon after her elder son Jamie lost 45lbs by "eating like a six-year-old," he said. "Six-year-olds eat the right portion sizes!"
Paula's husband was facing a painful knee replacement surgery if he didn't shed some weight from his 300-lb frame so successfully lost 60lbs on a doctor-supervised program.
And the baby of the family, cute-as-a-button Bobby had faced his over-eating problems years before losing 33lbs because he "didn't look or feel good" and "decided to get in shape."
Paula went from being an agoraphobic single mom to building an empire consisting of 16 cookbooks, her own magazine, three top TV shows, six restaurants and this Spring she is releasing her own line of fresh and packaged food products in her bid to help others get healthy too.
