Rapper Gucci Mane will be spending some time in a mental health facility after he explained he was not in the right mental state to stand up to prosecutors’ efforts to rescind his probation.
Born Radric Davis, the 30-year-old rapper showed up for his court date yesterday in a Georgia courtroom after filing a “Special Plea of Mental Incompetency,” TMZ reports.
According the the court documents obtained by TMZ, Gucci is not healthy enough to “intelligently participate in the probation revocation hearing,” at this current time.
Immediately, the judge ordered Gucci into custody and ruled he would be committed into a mental health treatment facility so his condition could be evaluated.
The state of his case depends on his psych evaluation.
Gucci served a six-month jail term for assault in late 2005, during which time he was charged with murder.
The murder charges were dropped due to a lack of evidence.
In 2009, he served a year-long prison term for violating probation stemming from his 2005 assault conviction.
Gucci was featured in remixes of the songs “Boom Boom Pow” by Black Eyed Peas and “Obsessed” by Mariah Carey. He has also worked with Ludacris and Lil’ Kim.
