Shocking, horrible news today: Robin Williams is dead at 63. The beloved actor has died of suicide by hanging. He had struggled in recent months with mental health issues, and had even re-entered rehab after years of being clean and sober.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the news in a press release. They explained at the time that he died by apparent suicide by asphyxia, though the investigation is ongoing. His body was found Monday, August 11.
His wife Susan said in a statement: “This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”
