Scarlett Johansson‘s endorsement of SodaStream is getting even more complicated. First, her Super Bowl ad for the carbonation machine was banned, and now her role with the company is calling her charity work with Oxfam into question.
You may have seen earlier this week that Scarlett Johansson’s SodaStream commercial for the Super Bowl was banned. Was it crazy sexual or full of explicit words? Well, just a few inappropriate words: “Sorry, Coke and Pepsi.” Fox frowned on the direct comment on competitors, so the ad was kicked out of the Super Bowl line-up.
But the plot thickens. It seems that SodaStream has a factory in the West Bank, which is oh, a bit of a complicated place (you’ve heard of Israel and Palestine’s disagreement, surely?). Scarlett has an ambassadorship with Oxfam, a pro-human rights organization that doesn’t approve of businesses preying on Palestinian settlements. Both Oxfam and Scarlett released statements explaining the dissolution of her relationship with the charity group. All this over some carbonated juice?! Whew.
