One week after Katie Couric announced her departure from CBS Evening News, Scott Pelley has been named as her replacement.
Scott was the expected replacement for Katie and now, according to Gossip Cop, an official announcement from the network has been made.
Scott is currently a correspondent for 60 Minutes.
“Scott has it all. He has the experience, the credibility and he is among the very best reporters ever to work at CBS News,” Jeff Fager, chairman, said in a statement. “Scott is the ideal journalist to lead this broadcast. We’re very proud to have him guiding this news organization’s reporting each and every evening.”
“The creative freedom to pick subjects, to dig deep, to have an intelligent conversation,” Katie previously told Matt Lauer of her future plans before announcing her departure from CBS Evening News, “It would be nice to have a little more wiggle room to show my personality.”
Scott will take over as anchor on June 6.
