Is there One Direction or are there two? That is the question.

An American band claims to be the original One Direction, even though the One Direction everyone knows and loves is technically from the UK.

Well, the American version has sued Sony Music and Syco Entertainment, Simon Cowell's record label, for $1 million!

Apparently, as pointed out by E! News, they charged the British group is confusing its fans and ruining the credibility they built on this side of the pond.

In fact, the California-based quintent wants the famous boy band to change its name! In one instance, Today made a mistake on-air and introduced the UK band with the U.S. band's song "2012" when they performed last month.

The U.S. version of the band alleged that the UK's version found out they shared the same band name when they tried to file with the U.S. Trademark Office. In addition to the confusion, the plaintiff claims that the British-based One Direction will damage the goodwill the Americans built with their domestic audience.
