'SNL' Skit Criticized for Tiger Woods Domestic Violence Spoof

A Saturday Night Live skit featuring Keenan Thompson and host Blake Lively as Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren is making headlines for its parody on domestic violence. The skit is especially being criticized because Rihanna was the musical guest of the night.

The sketch on SNL poked fun at Tiger's accident and reports that his wife Elin attacked him before his car accident, though Tiger and Elin both denied that report.

Rihanna, a victim of domestic violence this year from Chris Brown, was the musical guest, causing some media outlets to feel the show's skit was insensitive.

“It was another sketch that gave us pause,” PopEater writes. “We think, had the genders been reversed, SNL wouldn’t make light of the potentially violent situation."

“As soon as this sketch started, I immediately thought, ‘Oh, no! Stop the sketch! Rihanna might see,’” TV Squad blog wrote, “Had the tables been turned and a man was suspected of beating up his wife, there definitely wouldn’t be a lighthearted sketch like this. But since it’s female-on-male domestic violence, our current culture deems it kind of, sort of okay to make fun of and the scandal had to be addressed before it lost heat.”

Commenters on entertainment sites are also speaking out on the SNL skit, but for making fun of domestic violence in general and not just having Rihanna on the show.

“The Tiger Woods sketch was terrible. Domestic abuse is NOT funny. It was even more awkward since Rihanna was there,” a commenter  wrote on the Entertainment Weekly EW.com site.
