Steven Tyler is finally opening about why he decided to move on from American Idol after just two seasons at the judges' table.

OK! NEWS: STEVEN TYLER LEAVES AMERICAN IDOL TO FOCUS ON AEROSMITH

Initially, the rocker just said that he wanted to spend more time working with his band Aerosmith, as he revealed in the statement that he was leaving the show last month.

"After some long…hard…thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit. I strayed from my first love, AEROSMITH, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band."

But apparently it ran much deeper than that. Steven opened up about his decision in the new issue of Rolling Stone. “It was something to do while the storm blew by, to be honest,” he told the magazine, referring to recent troubles with his rock band. But after being on the show, "it was not his cup of tea."

OK! NEWS: RANDY JACKSON REACTS TO STEVEN TYLER AND JENNIFER LOPEZ'S IDOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Even though Steven has been part of the rock music world most of his life and is used to criticism, he just didn't enjoy delving it out to these young singers. "The show’s about kids and what you do to nurture their talent. They wanted me to take the piss out of the kids and I don’t have that in me. That’s not what I’m about.”

Since Steven announced his departure, Jennifer Lopez has announced she is leaving as well, with Mariah Carey stepping in as a new judge. But still no word on Randy Jackson.

Do you think Randy should return?
