Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley got into a violent fight in this week’s Teen Mom after Gary threatened to report her to Child Protective Services. Well, he didn’t have to make the call — they’ve already launched an investigation.
“We were made aware of the domestic abuse following the episode that aired on MTV,” Anderson Public Information Officer Mitch Carroll of the Anderson Police Department told Radar Online.
According to Radar Online, reviewing the tape shows 20-year-old Amber punching and slapping Gary at least seven times, but Gary does not fight back.
“Based on that there was a case drafted and a detective was assigned,” Carroll explained. “The Department of Child Protective Services in Indiana notified us that they had been aware of the incident as well.”
“Once the detective reviews the initial case report… there will need to be interviews conducted with Amber and Gary,” he added. “Anytime you have photographic or video evidence it helps.”
But what really shocked many viewers was that Amber and Gary’s daughter Leah was standing by their feet at the time.
“Indiana’s confidentiality law is very stringent and I’m not able to make any comment as to whether an investigation has been launched,” Ann Houseworth of the Indiana Child Protective Services told Radar Online. “In the event that a call was made about the incident, we’d be required to give a copy of what we find to a prosecutor who will use that to decide whether charges will be filed.”
She also said that the TV footage would not be able to be used in an investigation by Child Protective Services “unless we’re called to the scene in fairly short order, as date and time can be changed on video.”
