Tom Cruise Calls Tony Scott a "Dear Friend" and a "Creative Visionary"

One day after prolific Hollywood director Tony Scott jumped to his death, Tom Cruise is speaking out about the tragic situation.

The 50-year-old shot to fame after he starred in Top Gun, a film directed by Scott where he played a fighter pilot.

On August 19, the British 68-year-old leapt off the Vincent Thomas Bridge at the Los Angeles Harbor around 12:30 p.m.

His body was found a few hours later by divers. He left a suicide note in his office and it was reported today he was battling inoperable brain cancer, which may have spurred the suicide.

Upon hearing the sad news, Tom wrote on Twitter, "Tony was my dear friend and I will really miss him. He was a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable. My deepest sorrow and thoughts are with his family at this time. -Tom"

In addition to working with Scott on Top Gun, Tom starred in his film Days of Thunder, where he met ex-wife Nicole Kidman.

Scott had numerous other huge hits which include Beverly Hills Cop II, Enemy of the State, Spy Game, and the remake of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. He also served as an executive producer on CBS' The Good Wife.

Scott leaves behind a wife and two young sons.
