NEWSVIDEO: 'Jersey Shore' & Garden State Gov Go Head-to-Head on 'Today'

With the highly-anticipated second season of the Jersey Shore hours away, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Vinny Guadagnino, DJ Pauly DelVecchio and Jenni "J-Woww" Farley took some time to chat with Today's Matt Lauer, clearing up salary rumors and responding to Garden State Governor Chris Christie's claim that their reality show gives the real New Jersey shore a bad name!
The cast of MTV's hit reality show received a lot of attention over alleged salary disputes leading up to season two.
But according to the cast, you shouldn't believe everything you hear.
Matt asked if the negotiations over salaries caused and tension, confrontation, or hostility in the house? (All elements that make for great reality TV, he noted.)

"We don't come here and think about money, we come here to party," Snooki explained. "We don't discuss these things and we shouldn't. We just come here to have fun."
So, does that fun include splurging on shiny new toys with their "not talked about" dough?
Snooki, who spearheaded the conversation during the interview, said she bought a 2011 BMW, "That I can't drive because it's stick."
The four cast members (wonder where Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino was this morning?) maintained they don't go out of their way to cause confrontation. Rather, the drama just finds them.
"That's the best thing about our show," DJ Pauly D explained. "We are all ourselves. It's not scripted."
As far as NJ Gov. Chris Christie's claims that this "unscripted" drama is not welcomed in the Garden State, Snooki said “the shore” is about “having a good time.”
“You can be from Connecticut, wherever, New York. You don't have to be from Jersey. It's about getting a shore house."
Governor Christie also interviewed with Matt Lauer this morning and explained why he feels the way he does about the reality stars.
"They parachute all of these people from New York onto the Jersey Shore and than they say it's New Jersey. It's not New Jersey," he explained. "If you want to go to the Jersey Shore, then come, we will show you."
In response, Matt asked the governor — who is facing a $1 billion deficit in the Garden state — if the Jersey Shore kids should maybe be applauded for increasing tourism in Jersey beach towns, something that is good for the economy.
"We'll find other ways to increase tourism," the governor said with conviction. "You can have Snooki and The Situation back. I have enough problems here."
The rest of the Jersey Shore cast doesn't understand the governor's problem.
"It's a vacation," J-Woww explained.
Vinny added, "If we can help out the pockets of New Jersey, than that's a bonus for us."

Guess it's safe to say Christie won't be tuning into the Season 2 premiere tonight at 10 p.m. on MTV, but we know we will!
