On last night's premiere of The Jay Leno Show, Kanye West was set to perform -- but also wanted the chance to apologize to Taylor Swift again for interrupting her VMA acceptance speech Sunday night.

Jay thanked Kanye first of all for appearing on the show -- as many celebs involved in controversy end up ditching out on commitments -- and then invited him to offer his apologies.

"It's been extremely, difficult. Jus dealing with the fact that I hurt someone or took anything away from a talented artist, or from anyone... I only want to help people, my entire life, I've only wanted to give and do something that I felt was right and I immediately knew in the situation that it was wrong and it wasn't a spectacle. It's actually someone's emotions that I stepped on it and it was very rude, period. I'd like to be able to apologize to her in person."

When Jay asked what his late mother would have said to him about the incident, Kanye paused for a long time, clearly fighting back tears, before answering.

"Obviously, I deal with hurt and so many celebrities never take the time off, and I've never taken the time off... I'm just ashamed that my hurt caused someone else's hurt. I don't try to justify because I was in the wrong, period."

"If there's anything I could do to help Taylor in the future or help anyone, I'd like to," Kanye added in closing. "I want to live this thing, it's hard sometimes."
