After watching a new video of Miley Cyrus allegedly taking hits from a bong, fans are speculating whether the bong contained marijuana or salvia. So, what is salvia?
TMZ is now reporting on exactly what salvia is, for those who don’t know.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency has listed salvia as a “drug of concern,” TMZ reports.
The DEA states that salvia is a Mexican herb that can be smoked to “evoke hallucinogenic effects.”
“Psychic effects include perceptions of bright lights, vivid colors and shapes, as well as body movements and body or object distortions,” the DEA also reports and other effects include uncontrolled laughter, overlapping realities, incoordination, dizziness and slurred speech.
Do you think Miley showed any of those effects in the video?
The DEA, according to Scientific American Magazine, is “looking into the drug” to decide whether it should be “on par” with LSD and heroin.
But before you argue that salvia is not as bad as that suggests, research shows from several universities including Harvard that salvia could help improve treatments for schizophrenia and addiction.
For now, salvia remains legal in most U.S. states including California where Miley was reportedly partying.
